What Is a
giclée, lithograph, ink jet print?

As technology advances Giclée printing continues to evolve into an ever better medium for fine art reproductions. We are currently using the state of the art Cave Paint, which is Lyson's PhotoChrome inkset for several Epson printers including the Epson 7600, which is our printer of choice. The PhotoChrome inks feature an improved overall color gamut compared to the Epson UltraChrome inks and can offer a deep and true black on all substrates.

This printing technique produces an image that is durable and truly archival. It is thought that that these inks will last 70 years.

Giclée printing favored by artists because it can be used to place an image on watercolor paper or canvas -- giving the print a very close feel to the original. With focused hand-painted embellishments, these prints have the feel and look of an original painting. While we generally print on canvas for its durability and kinship to the original medium, we can run any print on watercolor paper. Just make your request known to us. Feel free to give us a call if you would like to discuss different surfaces that we can print on.

These prints additionally have been coated with ultra violet inhibitors that will add even more years to their longevity, perhaps even as much as twice as long.

Many museums have purchased giclées for their collections. The price of a giclée depends on many things. It will vary according to an artist’s reputation, the number of prints in the edition, and the actual size of the print.

Small prints can go for as little as $100 to $300, while a large one by a well-known artist can go for thousands of dollars.

A lithograph is a print made by a process of separating the colors of an image photographically and then making metal plates that are used with a press, one for each color. This process is often referred to as offset printing. Normally three colors and black are used, but sometimes more plates are made if the colors are particularly difficult to achieve with only four plates. Lithographs are well known for their high quality and resilience to the ravages of time.

Select from any of these superior archival quality prints; the next best thing to an original! All printed on 100% acid free cotton rag paper using the finest fade resistant inks available. Each print is signed and dated by the artist for a limited edition of 500. Pick more than one to have a grouping with visual impact!

Ink Jet
Ink jet printers spray ink onto special papers. They have evolved in recent years to become photographic in quality, and competitive with more expensive printing techniques. Among their many advantages are the ability to stay within the RGB color space, making for reproductions that are often more vibrant than those created with offset printing. We make our ink jet prints with an Epson 3000 using Adobe Post Script printing to ensure that our images have the color and clarity that we have come to expect from any high quality reproduction.
